Flag of Belarus available in 100% Polyester fabric and various measures from 060X100 to 150x300. Particularly suitable for outdoor use and manufactured in European union.
Origin:
The current flag of Belarus has its origins in the design of the Soviet era (1951), but it was officially adopted in its current form on 7 June 1995 following a national referendum. It replaces the white-red-white flag that was used after independence in 1991. This flag is distinguished by a vertical red stripe on a white background along the mast, which features a traditional Belarusian ornamental pattern, symbol of the country’s peasant cultural heritage.
History:
For centuries, the Belarusian lands used various emblems, including the "Pahonia" (white knight on a red background) of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. However, the modern flag is the heir of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic.
At independence in 1991, the country first adopted a horizontal tricolor flag (white-red-white), but in 1995, President Alexander Lukashenko proposed to return to a design close to the Soviet model, simply removing the sickle and hammer. The red on white ornamental pattern, created in 1917 by Matrona Markevich, has been preserved as it represents local flowers and plants. In 2012, a slight change was made to adjust the colors of the ornamental pattern so that it occupies the entire width of the white band.
Meaning:
The national flag of Belarus consists of two horizontal stripes (red and green) and a vertical white stripe with a traditional design.
Strong symbolism: The colors and pattern reflect the country’s history and land:
The Red: Symbolizes the country’s historical past, recalling the bravery of the armies at the Battle of Grunwald and the sacrifice of soldiers during World War II.
The Green: Represents the future, hope, renewal and above all the vast forests and swamps that cover a large part of the Belarusian territory.
The Ornamental Pattern : It is a symbol of ancestral culture, the unity of the people, and the continuity of traditions.
A unique identity: Unlike its neighbors, Belarus has chosen to maintain a strong visual link with its Soviet past while celebrating its unique folk crafts.
Two symbols in debate : There is an important cultural distinction:
The Red and Green Flag: This is the official state flag, used for all government and international representations.
The White-Red-White Flag: Although it is not official, it remains a strong historical and political symbol for part of the population and diaspora, recalling the brief Belarusian People’s Republic of 1918.
