Origin :
Created after the independence of Japan, in the year 1945, the flag of Laos was officially adopted in 1975.
History :
After the Japanese occupation, the French retaken control until 1954, although in 1950 the country achieved a semi-autonomy. From the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth, the banner was red, with the French tricolor in the upper left quadrant and a white elephant with three heads (representing the ancient kingdoms that gave rise to Laos: Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Champasak) in the center on a pedestal and under a parasol. This animal was used as a real symbol in Southeast Asia. In 1954 they achieved complete independence, with a monarchical system that lasted until 1975. They maintained the same banner, except for the fact that the French emblem disappeared.
Meaning :
The flag of Laos u> has three bands arranged horizontally, with those located at the upper and lower ends of red, and blue central, which is twice as wide as red. Red refers to the blood shed for independence, and blue represents the Mekong River, as well as holiness in Laos.
