The origin of the flag of Granada goes back to the Nasrid dynasty, whose flag was red with a yellow diagonal. At the end of the 15th century, as a consequence of the conquest of Granada, the Old Guard of Castile was created, whose emblem was green, with the coat of arms of the Catholic Kings in the center. So, we already have the two colors of the current Granada school.
History :
The design of the Flag of Granada , also known as Rojiverde, is after the Reconquest of Granada. It was approved on September 6, 1983. Surely you have noticed that it has the same colors as the flag of Portugal, and that it bears a great resemblance to that of Malaga -both you can buy them on the web-, which was part of the Kingdom of Granada.
Meaning :
The flag of Granada is divided vertically in two, being the part stuck to the pole of red color, and the other part, green. In the center is the shield, which was granted, in its current arrangement, by Elizabeth II shortly before the mid-nineteenth century. In it you can see the Catholic Kings on their thrones. Under them, two quadrants: one with the Torre de la Vela and another with a grenade. Around, an embroidery in which Leon and Castilla alternate. Bordering the shield, a tape on which you can read: "Celebrate and heroic city of Granada, very noble, very loyal, named great." All topped with the royal crown.
