Origin:
Conceived in 1849 by Narciso Lopez a Venezuelan military exile in the city of New York, it was his friend Miguel Teurbe Toulon who made both its design and the Cuban shield. According to the legend, Narciso saw in the dawn sky represented, capriciously, colours and forms that he afterwards included in the Cuban flag. But legends aside, the historical evidence of Lopez himself reinforces the theory that this flag was inspired by the US since the expedition to Cuba in 1850 had as an aim the annexation.
History:
Narciso Lopez used this ensign on his boat when he made the crossing to liberate the island, Being Cardenas town the first one who sought this pavilion arrive on its shores. The following year after the beginning of the Ten Years' War, the meeting of the Constituent Assembly of the Republic of Cuba in Arms took place, where the standard of Lopez was chosen, among other candidates more. Generalissimo Máximo Gómez hoisted this flag in 1902 in the Castle of the Three Kings of Morro in Havana
Meaning :
Regarding the meaning of the flag of Cuba, the three military departments in which Cuba was divided (western, central and eastern) are represented by the three blue stripes. The two white allude to the light of the Cuban patriots and the purity of Cubans ideals.
The red triangle symbolizes the blood shed by the patriots in the wars of independence. And the white five-pointed star refers to the new state that should join the United States
