Origin :
The current Berlin flag was approved at the end of May 1954 for West Berlin and is based on the design of Ottfried Neubecker. Since 1990, after the reunification of the country, it is the only symbol representing the entire city.
History :
It is believed that the bear arose for the first time in 1280, in a seal of the city. Meaning :
The flag of Berlin is formed by the red and white colors, arranged in three horizontal lines: red, at the top and bottom edges, and white, at the center, where the image of a black bear, with tongue and red claws. The bear is slightly displaced to the side of the mast, is part of the coat of arms of Berlin and has the peculiarity that it represents the first part of the name of the city in German, because 'Bär' - pronunced / ber / - means bear.

As for the colors, they are the same as those used in Brandenburg, the historical province of which Berlin was a part until 1881.
