Origin :
The Albanian flag comes from a similar seal of the Albanian military Jorge Castriota Skanderbeg. He is considered a national hero, as he was the leader of a revolt against the Ottoman Empire that led to the country’s independence between 1443 and 1478.
History :
The red background with the eagle has been used in all Albanian standards since the beginning of the 20th century, but with slight modifications depending on the era. For example, during the Italian occupation from 1939 to 1943, eagles were inside another shield. Later, the German occupation, between 1943 and 1944, when the eagle stopped being stuck in a shield and became more attached to the left half. From 1944 to 1946, during the Democratic Republic of Albania, the eagle reappeared centered, with the sickle symbol.
During the socialist period that prevailed in Albania until 1992, the Albanian flag consisted of a red star with a yellow border, symbol of the People’s Republic of Albania.
Meaning:
The flag of Albania consists of a black double-headed eagle in the center, on a red background, which symbolizes courage, blood and strength. It is said that the color of the eagle augurs the defeat of the enemy.
It should be noted that the word used to refer to Albania in its native language is "Shqipëri", meaning: "Land of Eagles".
