The current Syrian flag was adopted relatively recently, in the year 1980. Before, between 1958 and 1961, it had been the insignia of the now defunct United Arab Republic, to which the Syrian Arab Republic belonged. .
History :
In 2011 a Civil War broke out in Syria, which caused government supporters to wear this badge, while opponents chose the 1932 banner as a symbol. This consists of three stripes arranged horizontally: green, white and black, with three red five-pointed stars arranged on the white part. It is the first used after the independence of France, and was in force until 1958. Later it was used again between 1961 and 1963.
Between 1963 and 1971 red, white and black were used, but with three green stars instead of two, while from 1972 to 1980 the stars were replaced by a shield, at the time when Syria was part of the Federation of Arab Republics
Meaning :
The Syria flag that you have available on our website is formed by three horizontal bands, the upper one being red, the white intermediate and the lower black. These are the colors of pan-Arabism and symbolize, respectively, the Hachemí dynasty and the blood shed by the martyrs; the Umayyad dynasty; and the Abbasid Caliphate. On the white stripe there are two five-pointed green stars, the traditional one of Islam and also used by the Fatimid Caliphate. These represent the members of the United Arab Republic: Egypt and Syria.
