Origin:
Before being presented over a flag, the first French colours showed up on a cockade in the French revolution after the storming of the Bastille, in 1789. It is the Lafayette Marquis who returned to Louis XVI the tricolour cockade, having from that time a great impact as a patriotic symbol. The current flag design is the work of French painter Jacques-Louis David, who during the First Republic of 1794 advised to reverse the order of the strips, leaving the blue next to the flagpole.
History:
The current French flag makes its first appearance as the national flag of warships and commercial buildings in 1792. It is established as a national flag in 1812 during the First Empire of Napoleon. The sign would be replaced later by the white flag of Louis XIV, during the First Restoration of 1814 and the Second Restoration of 1815. The flag of France as we know it today, it was finally adopted in 1830.
Meaning :
Each colour of the French ensign has its meaning. Blue is the first colour of the flag of Paris and the Capetian dynasty and coronation wrap. Red is the second colour of the flag of Paris, and also represents the standard of the Abbey of Saint-Denis, known as "Oriflame" Charlemagne. Finally, the white represents the French monarchy and holiness.
