Origin :
The origin of the Colombian flag is found in the one created by General Francisco Miranda, who waved Colombian colors for the first time at the beginning of the 19th century. It was at sea, before preparing to invade Coro, in a failed manner. In turn, Miranda confessed to having been inspired by the colors of the banner of the Burghers Guards of Hamburg.
History :
The Colombian flag was approved on November 26, 1861. It consists of three horizontal bands of yellow, blue and red, from top to bottom. The yellow one is the widest, since it occupies half of the banner, leaving blue and red to distribute the remaining 50% in equal parts. However, until that official approval of the Colombian emblem, which can be purchased at any flagship store, it was made to wait. In 1814 they had adopted the colors yellow, green and red; this was a consequence of his membership of the United Province of New Granada. Once conformed New Granada (Colombia), blue replaced green in 1821. It must be said that these same colors are also present in the emblems of Ecuador and Venezuela.
Meaning :
The meaning of their colors is as follows: yellow symbolizes the richness and fertility of Colombian soil; the blue, the seas that bathe its territory; and red represents the blood poured by the heroes on the battlefields to achieve the freedom of the nation.
