Origin :
The activist Michael Page is responsible for the design of the bisexual flag or banner of bisexual pride. It is relatively new, since the first time it was used was at the end of 1998, on the first anniversary of BiCafe.
History :
In 1991, the First International Congress on Bisexuality was held in Amsterdam. Since then, one of the objectives has been to create a symbol that represents this group.
This emblem was born with the aim of giving greater visibility to the bisexual collective. In addition to the flag, two superimposed triangles were also used at that time: one pink and the other blue. In certain countries, especially in Germany and those around, two moons were used instead of triangles, since the triangles were related to Nazism.
Meaning :
The bisexual flag consists of three horizontal stripes of different sizes. Thus, the superior and the inferior are two fifths, while the central one is one fifth. As for the color relationship, they are arranged, from top to bottom, in the following way: pink, purple and blue.
Surely you will wonder why this choice, and has a very simple explanation. Pink is used as a symbol of homosexuality -and of the female sex-, and blue, of heterosexuality -and of the male sex-. And what results from the mixture of both colors? Exactly: the purple, which is arranged in the center, as a result of pink and blue, and a mixture of both orientations.
