Origin:
It was accepted as own after the kings Philip I of Castile –member of the Burgundian house -and Juana I introduced it in Spain, and became a symbol of the Crown, the Navy and the Spanish Thirds.
History:
The flag of the Cross of Burgundy became the national emblem in Spain, which began to be used on uniforms and flags entourage of Philip I of Castile. Perhaps the Cross of Burgundy is one of the symbols which has had more impact on the world of heraldry, and specifically the vexillology. It disappeared during the two republics and it was recovered by General Franco who incorporated it to the Air Force.
Also, the Carlism movement accepted it as own in 1934 to identify his militia, Requeté. Currently, it is one of the symbols of the shield of the King, as explained on the website of the Royal House: "Take accolade to shield the red cross of Burgundy and right and left of the tip thereof, the yoke gules in its natural position with ribbons of the same, and the bundle of five arrows gules, tipped down and tapes of the same ".
Meaning :
The Burgundy Cross is a symbol that refers to the martyrdom of St. Andrew the Apostle. Emblem of suffering and humility, which in heraldry is a symbol of unbeaten leader in combat.
